Anti-Corruption Secretariat acts against irregularities in Pemex
The Secretary of Anti-Corruption and Good Government, Raquel Buenrostro, confirmed that her agency will take forceful measures against officials of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) linked to the fiscal huachicol, especially at the customs in Tuxpan, Veracruz. During a press conference, he emphasized that the Presidency’s instruction is to apply zero tolerance to corrupt practices that affect the economy and national security.
Key findings in Pemex audit
According to documents obtained by EL UNIVERSAL, the audit AU-47/2025, carried out at the Pemex Customs Office, revealed indications of employee participation in tax evasion schemes. Between 2023 and 2024, several officials failed to register imports and exports of hydrocarbons in the automated customs system, which facilitated the diversion of resources.
Buenrostro explained that, although the inspection was carried out by Pemex, the Anti-Corruption Secretariat will assume the investigation to determine responsibilities. “When irregularities are identified, the Responsibilities Unit—dependent on our secretariat—initiates a process to sanction those involved,” he explained.
Economic impact and national security
The fiscal huachicol not only represents million-dollar losses for the treasury, but also weakens the country’s energy infrastructure. Buenrostro highlighted that this crime has a “high impact on national security”, so combating it is a priority. The agency will analyze all related complaints to guarantee transparency in the sector.
The secretary clarified that, although she does not know the exact stage of the process, her team will follow up until all legal avenues are exhausted. “We will not allow impunity; we will act with the full force of the law,” he stated.
