The comeback of ‘Rahmbo’ in Chapultepec
Jon Rahm started the second round on the wrong foot. A bogey on hole 1 heralded a difficult day at the Chapultepec Golf Club.
But this guy knows resilience. Really. He responded with an immediate birdie at No. 2 and never looked back. He signed a card of four under par to reach a cumulative score of -10 and tightly grab the lead.
The round was an emotional see-saw. On the 8th hole, his second error of the day sent the ball into the water. At that moment, Dustin Johnson took the opportunity to steal the lead.
“What happened today was golf in itself,” declared ‘Rahmbo’ afterwards.
He didn’t give up. That’s what makes the difference. Closing the back nine, he chained four birdies to recover what was his and not let go.
Meanwhile, others were not so fortunate. Victor Perez lived a true nightmare: he finished two strokes over par, with five bogeys and even wasting minutes looking for a ball.
Other names that shined
Behind Rahm, there is a one-shot three-way tie: Matthew Wolff, Tom McKibbin and Harold Varner III are putting pressure on.
The Mexicans gave joy. Abraham Ancer completely turned his tournament around. After a discreet first day, he signed five under par and climbed to 16th place.
Carlos Ortiz gave the magical moment of the day with a fantasy shot that slipped through the trees thanks to an incredible rebound. He finished in 22nd place.
In the end, the party was assured. The Blue Angels played music and thousands of fans celebrated another great day of golf in Mexico. Sunday promises battle.
