What an ending! Bryson DeChambeau has just closed his preparation for the Masters with a movie victory.
He defeated Jon Rahm in a heart-stopping playoff to win the LIV Golf South Africa. His second crown in a row, after Singapore last week. The guy is on fire.
The key was on that 18th hole, par 5, with the course soaked. Bryson sent his exit into the mud. But this is where you see the champion: he got relief, placed the ball and, with his feet firmly in the mud, unleashed a spectacular 3-wood that left the ball 12 feet from the hole.
Rahm, from the street, could not match him. He sent his approach into a bunker and missed a crucial putt. Bryson only needed two hits to seal the victory.
The large crowd began singing the national anthem when DeChambeau was just off the green.
That moment says it all. The pressure, the environment, and him responding like the greats. He finished with a total of 258 strokes, 26 under par.
With this victory, Bryson already has five titles on the LIV circuit. He joins an exclusive club where only Joaquín Niemann (7) and Brooks Koepka (5) are.
Now, all attention goes to Augusta. He arrives at the Masters with sky-high confidence and shots that are working perfectly. If he maintains this level, he will be one of the undisputed favorites.
