Statements by Reginaldo Sandoval
The coordinator of the Labor Party (PT) in the Chamber of Deputies, Reginaldo Sandoval, stated that it is not necessary to create a new cause for electoral annulment linked to financing of organized crime. Consider that current legislation already includes sufficient tools.
“I think it doesn’t matter, because it is in the law that private financing cannot be received and you have to walk at the top of the campaign,” said the legislator.
According to Sandoval, an election can be annulled when an overspending of more than a five percent difference in results is demonstrated.
Current legal framework
The deputy stressed that the electoral regulations establish clear sanctions against excesses in campaign expenses or receipt of improper private financing. Therefore, it rules out the need to incorporate specific provisions against illicit resources.
Sandoval remains firm that the current law gives the authorities the mechanisms to guarantee transparency and legality in the elections. Adding new causes, he added, could complicate the regulatory framework.
