The PT closes ranks with Sheinbaum
The Labor Party (PT) did not hesitate. This Tuesday, its coordinator in the Chamber of Deputies, Reginaldo Sandoval, reaffirmed full support for the so-called Plan B of President Claudia Sheinbaum. The initiative, which includes reducing the salaries of officials of the National Electoral Institute (INE), has the green light.
The move seeks to silence rumors. There was speculation about a possible rejection by the PT of the project, but Sandoval was clear: they are going for everything.
“The determination of the group and also of the party is that we accompany this minute as it was approved in the Senate. We are going to support it as a parliamentary group,” said Sandoval during a press conference.
Austerity vs. Privileges
For the PT, this is not a whim. It is part of the austerity route and, according to them, of eliminating privileges within the institutions. The central argument is to balance expenses and avoid salaries that are considered excessive.
The crucial thing: they insist that the functionality of the INE will not be affected. Their ability to guarantee transparent and reliable electoral processes, they assure, remains intact.
Sandoval went further and flatly rejected that this puts democracy at risk. For him, it is the opposite: an effort to promote transparency and more efficient management of public resources.
At its core, it is a calculated political move. The PT aligns itself seamlessly with Sheinbaum’s agenda, sending a message of internal unity in the face of a reform that promises to continue generating debate.
