Your dryer could be conspiring to set you on fire (literally)
Imagine this: It’s Sunday, you’re watching your favorite show, and suddenly the only sound that should accompany you—the soft hum of your dryer—becomes the roar of a fire in your laundry room. No, it is not the plot of a new horror movie on Netflix. It is the real warning that the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) and Alliance Laundry Systems LLC have just launched. It turns out that 556 dryers have more spark than we asked for, and not in a good way.
The drama centers on some screws with serious commitment problems. These little ones could detach themselves like that friend who disappears when it’s time to pay the bill, and their desertion would cause a gas leak. The combination of loose gas and electricity is, of course, the perfect recipe for a wire to decide to catch fire and organize its own spontaneous combustion event. Basically, your appliance could be one screw away from becoming an unintentional campfire.
Is your dryer on the ‘pyrotechnic’ list?
Not all dryers are dramatic. The recall is specific to the high-risk divas of the Huebsch, Speed Queen and Unimac brands. Affected models include single-drum and double-drum dryers, because fire risk apparently makes no distinction in capacity.
To find out if your machine is in its rebel era, you have to play detective with the model number. It’s like cracking a secret code, but instead of saving the world, you save your house from burning down. The key is this: the first digit must be an S, H or U; the digits 3 to 5 must be the numbers 030, 035, 045 or 055; the sixth digit a letter N, L, R or D; and the thirteenth digit must be a 6. If your dryer meets this cryptic profile, congratulations, you could have a potential risk at home.
The good news, in the midst of this potential chaos, is that the company has stepped up to the plate (hopefully not literally, so as not to make things worse). He promised to repair defective units at no cost and, best of all, in the comfort of your home. You don’t have to carry that potential incendiary device in the trunk of your car.
The rescue plan (or how to prevent your life from becoming a meme)
If you suspect that your dryer is a potential arsonist, the process is simpler than ordering food through an app. The review campaign is valid since April 2025 and has no expiration date. Affected persons must send an email to provide the requested data. Next, Alliance LaundrySystems will schedule the visit of a specialized technician who will come to your home to solve the defect.
Until June 6, the company reported that it was not aware of damages or injuries related to this defect in Mexican territory. Better safe than sorry, don’t you think?
To start the repair process, you can contact them directly via email [email protected] or visit their official websites: alliancelaundry.com, speedqueencommercial.com, huebsch.com and unimac.com.
For its part, Profeco, our hero in this consumer drama, reminds us that if something goes wrong or the company does not respond, we have the right to complain. You can call the Consumer Telephone at 55 5568 8722 and 800 468 8722, or contact them through their social networks:
So now you know, in the era of hybrid jobs and burnout, the last thing we need is for the laundry room to become a danger zone. Check your dryer, because in the game of life, avoiding a fire is always the master move.
