Profeco resolves 53 complaints and recovers 232 thousand pesos in El Buen Fin

The consumer authority recovers hundreds of thousands of pesos for buyers affected by non-compliance with promotions during the commercial event.

Profeco intervention during El Buen Fin

Within the framework of the fifteenth edition of El Buen Fin, the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) exercised active supervision to protect the rights of buyers. During the first day and until 4:00 p.m. on the second day of the event, the organization managed to resolve 53 disagreements out of a total of 56 reported. This regulatory intervention allowed the recovery of 232,440 pesos for the direct benefit of affected consumers, as reported by the agency through an official statement.

Of the set of claims presented, one remains in the administrative process, another lacks sufficient data to proceed with its follow-up and a last one does not fall within the scope of action of the Attorney General’s Office. A detailed analysis reveals that 66% of the cases were directly related to non-compliance with prices, promotions and offers advertised by commercial establishments.

Electronics and appliances: critical sector in complaints

Profeco identified that technological products represent a particularly sensitive segment during these discount events. Smart screens, white goods, mobile devices and other technology items are highly in-demand merchandise at this time, where offers promise significant economic benefits. However, the institution warned that precisely these products present the highest rate of irregularities, representing approximately 50% of the total conciliation requests received.

From a geographical perspective, the entities of Mexico City, State of Mexico and Hidalgo together concentrated around half of all the accumulated claims for non-compliance in prices of household appliances and electronic items. This regional pattern highlights the need to strengthen surveillance mechanisms in these areas of high population density and commercial activity.

Consumer advice and support

In parallel with the conciliation actions, Profeco provided 4,536 specialized advice nationwide. The thematic distribution of these consultations shows that 54.2% were aimed at informing about the procedures to enforce the fundamental rights of consumers. 28.7% corresponded to attention on the various procedures carried out by the institution, while the remaining 17.1% addressed specific problems such as refusal to deliver products, unjustified cancellation of purchases, non-compliance with promotional offers and other contractual situations.

On-site verification of regulatory compliance

As part of the supervision strategy during the second day of the commercial event, the head of Profeco, César Iván Escalante Ruiz, conducted a verification tour of commercial establishments in the Iztapalapa mayor’s office, Mexico City. The objective of this inspection was to verify that prices were properly displayed and visible to buyers, in addition to verifying that the terms and conditions applicable to promotional sales were clearly specified.

During his visit, the official observed that the stores offered discounts that reached “up to 70%” on various products, along with complementary promotions such as “direct cart bonuses” or additional banking benefits. These business strategies, although legitimate when applied correctly, require constant vigilance to prevent deceptive practices that could affect the family economy.

Consumer protection mechanisms

Profeco emphatically called on citizens to report any commercial practice that includes abusive clauses, misleading information or advertising that leads to error through inaccurate, false, exaggerated or partial presentations during El Buen Fin. The institution made its various customer service channels available to the population, including the Consumer Telephone at the numbers 55 5568 8722 and 800 468 8722, as well as the innovative Conciliaexprés mechanism, designed to expedite the resolution of commercial disputes.

The efficiency demonstrated by Profeco in resolving disputes during this commercial event underlines the importance of having solid institutions that balance market dynamics with the effective protection of consumer rights. The ability to recover significant sums of money in such a short time demonstrates both the vulnerability of buyers to irregular commercial practices and the effectiveness of defense mechanisms when exercised in a timely manner.

Morena accuses INE advisors of being ‘ill-wishers’

The Morena leader accuses INE advisors of being 'ill-wishers' and defends her affiliation system.

Morena questions the impartiality of the INE

The national leader of Morena, Ariadna Montiel Reyes, pointed out that within the INE there are advisors with critical positions towards her party. He described them as “Morena haters” during a press conference where he addressed recent resolutions on duplicate affiliations.

Montiel affirmed that his party abides by the determinations of the Electoral Court. The authority ordered the elimination of more than 93 thousand affiliate records and leave under review about 19 thousand cases that the INE must verify.

The leader demanded that the institute adhere to the resolutions of the General Council and not to individual opinions. He accused that there are figures close to past electoral administrations who maintain a critical stance towards the movement.

Regarding the affiliation system, Montiel defended that Morena’s application is efficient. He assured that it surpasses that of the INE in functionality, since it allows duplications in the records to be detected.

He also proposed that the INE should have real-time verification mechanisms to cross-check affiliation data. However, he acknowledged that there are different processes between parties and the electoral authority.

Audit detects control failures in the Women’s Secretariat

Failures in hiring and lack of manuals in the Women's Secretariat, according to official audit.

Failures in internal controls

An audit of the Anti-Corruption and Good Government Secretariat identified multiple deficiencies in the Women’s Secretariat. Among them, the absence of mechanisms to verify that the personnel in charge of caring for victims of violence did not have a criminal record or gender violence record.

The report “A PROCESO-006-074-2025” also indicates that there were no clear hiring procedures in the Women’s Instances in the Federal Entities (IMEF). For this reason, a preventive recommendation was issued to strengthen entry filters.

Pending manuals and organization

The agency lacked an updated General Organization Manual and a Procedures Manual, mandatory documents for its operation. The audits recommended developing and updating them.

Although the Secretariat reported that several areas had already sent projects to integrate these manuals, until now their complete implementation has not been accredited. In addition, another review detected inconsistencies in job profiles in the Information Technology area.

These observations occur in a context of institutional transition: the Women’s Secretariat has not had a head since April 2026. This situation has generated administrative and operational pending issues in the new structure of the federal agency.

The popularity of the official is reflected in sales. The sellers adapted their offer to the interest of the attendees. The variety of products has captured the attention of those who come to the venue.

The Morenoist catwalk not only moves politics. It also generates a direct impact on street commerce in the area. Sellers take advantage of each trend to increase their income.
