Profeco reports stability in gasoline and basic basket prices

A detailed analysis reveals fluctuations in the costs of fuel and essential products in Mexico.

Stability in gasoline prices in Mexico

According to data provided by Iván Escalante, head of the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco), 94.2% of service stations in the country sell regular gasoline at a cost of less than 24 pesos per liter. This information was released during the morning conference of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, held at the National Palace on May 26. The official highlighted that, as part of the National Strategy for the Stabilization of Gasoline Prices, the average value of fuel is located at 23.59 pesos per liter at the national level.

Regional variations in the basic basket

In addition to fuel, Escalante addressed the issue of the basic basket, pointing out significant disparities between regions. In Saltillo, Coahuila, the lowest cost was recorded with 728.10 pesos, while in the Benito Juárez mayor’s office of Mexico City, the price amounted to 1007.60 pesos. These differences reflect local economic dynamics and the impact of factors such as logistics and commercial competition.

Comparison in sending remittances

In another area of analysis, the head of Profeco presented a comparison on the sending of remittances. According to the study, Pagaphone Smart Pay offers the most favorable conditions for transfers of 350 dollars, while Pangea Money Transfer was ranked as the least competitive option. These data are relevant to consumers who depend on these services, especially in a context of labor migration.

Tools for the consumer

Escalante emphasized the importance of using resources such as the Profeco virtual map, where users can verify fuel prices in real time. Likewise, he recommended consulting the May edition of the institutional magazine, which includes an article on disposable sanitary napkins, another mass consumption product with notable price variations.

Conclusions and perspectives

The data presented by Profeco suggest relative stability in the hydrocarbon market, although challenges persist in the homogenization of costs for essential products. Transparency in information, such as that provided by the virtual map, empowers consumers to make informed decisions. However, the gap in the prices of the basic basket shows the need for targeted public policies.

The accusations were made by lawyer César Gutiérrez Priego, who stated that the legislator would have indirect connections with members of the Sinaloa Cartel through family relationships and social events.
