Piovi’s faith intact: “We believe we can reverse it”
Gonzalo Piovi does not have dreams, he has certainties. The Cruz Azul defender arrives at the decisive match against Los Angeles FC with a conviction that is proof of anything. The disadvantage on the scoreboard exists, but in the light blue locker room, confidence is stronger than ever.
The Argentine defender assures that the team will go out to the Cuauhtémoc Stadium with one mentality: to turn this story around. Trust in the quality of the squad and in that collective desire that boils inside.
“I think it depends on us, what we are going to do on the field, the details are going to be key,” said Piovi.
Height as an ally and a squad ready to respond
Piovi points to a factor that could tip the balance: the height of Mexico City. He knows that MLS teams often suffer the conditions when they visit, and Cruz Azul plans to make the most of that.
“The MLS teams, when they come to Mexico City, have a hard time with the height,” he explained. “We have to take advantage of that and the support of our people.”
Faith is not just an empty feeling. For the Argentine, it is based on the hierarchy of the squad and on that group unity that is strengthened in decisive moments. Even with possible absences due to calls to the Mexican National Team.
“We have colleagues who can supplant, they have done it reliably,” he said about possible casualties. “Everyone who touches him will do so with total freedom… it is an institution that requires high-ranking players.”
Cruz Azul clings to its last opportunity in the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup. The comeback seems complicated from the outside, but inside the locker room no one lowers their arms. Piovi and company are convinced: the historic night is there, waiting to be written.
“I think it’s going to be a game where we have to come out with total conviction,” the defender concluded. “We have faith that we are going to reverse it.”
The celestial machine has everything ready. All that remains is to prove it on the pitch.
