The Detroit Tigers give the Angels an epic beating
If the Los Angeles Angels thought Sunday would be a day of rest, the Detroit Tigers reminded them that baseball is unforgiving. With a combination of explosive hits and lethal pitches, Detroit crushed their rival 13-1, making it clear that they did not come to play, but to humiliate.
The offensive that no one saw coming (but we all enjoyed)
Trey Sweeney and Kerry Carpenter decided it was a good day to break personal records. Between the two of them, they accumulated 11 RBIs, four hits and, of course, a pair of home runs for the scrapbook. Sweeney, with six RBIs, and Carpenter, with five, made opposing pitchers wonder if they should have stayed home.
It all started in the second inning, when Sweeney singled against Jack Kochanowicz (who, spoiler: didn’t have his best day). Carpenter then decided that a two-run double was the best way to warm up. The result? A 3-0 that left the Angels looking at the sky wondering what they had done wrong.
But the party didn’t end there. In the sixth inning, Carpenter hit a three-run homer against reliever Michael Darrell-Hicks, bringing the score to 8-0. And if that wasn’t enough, Sweeney finished it off with another three-run shot in the seventh, followed by a two-run single in the eighth. Excess? Never. The Angels were already in survival mode.
The pitchers who closed the deal
While the offense worked its magic, Reese Olson (4-2) made sure the Angels didn’t breathe easy. With 5.2 shutout innings, eight strikeouts and only three hits allowed, Olson was every hitter’s nightmare. Brenan Hanifee, Beau Brieske and Will Vest finished the job, allowing just one run in total. Kochanowicz, for his part, took five runs on his account in just five innings. Tough luck, friend.
The Angels, already last in the American League West, added another loss to their collection, beginning a ten-game homestand with a disappointing 1-3. Meanwhile, the Tigers continue to prove that when it comes to baseball, they shouldn’t be underestimated.
And in case anyone doubted it, the Puerto Ricans Javier Báez (4-2 with four scored) and Tomás Nido (5-2 with one scored) also did their bit. Because in this team, even those who are not absolute protagonists know how to shine.
