Alert in Deer Park: Pemex confirms fuel spill
Sunday tranquility at the port facilities in Deer Park, Houston, was interrupted. Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) confirmed, through its emergency response system, a diesel spill at its Texas refinery.
According to the official statement, the leak originated in the Houston Ship Channel. The specialized team has already identified and isolated the point of the incident. The notice was given through the Community Awareness and Emergency Response system.
“Its spill control team, in conjunction with specialized contractors, deployed floating barriers to contain the fuel and prevent its spread,” the company detailed.
The US Coast Guard reported that, for now, it does not foresee closures to maritime traffic in the affected area. A small respite in the middle of the operation.
And the community?
Pemex Deer Park was emphatic: up to this point, no impacts have been recorded to the nearby community or other industries in the area. The authorities maintain constant monitoring and perimeter surveillance as a preventive measure.
Cleanup efforts will continue over the next few days, along with on-site testing. Meanwhile, operations at the refinery continue to develop normally. The company promised to report any updates in a timely manner.
The industrial theater doesn’t stop, but today the script included an unwanted act by the water.
