Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) confirmed that during the early hours of this Saturday a flame was recorded outside a vacuum waste storage tank at the Dos Bocas Refinery, in Tabasco. The company assured that the fire was immediately controlled in accordance with safety protocols.
The parastatal explained that the work is part of emptying operations that include water vapor and “controlled open vents.” Around midnight, a flame appeared outside one of the tanks, a situation that “did not represent any risk to the staff, the facilities or the community,” according to the official statement.
The facilities operate normally and maintenance work continues as scheduled. No injuries reported.
Recent context
The incident occurs the same week that an explosion and fire occurred at the Salina Cruz refinery, Oaxaca, which left six people injured. Additionally, last month a fire affected a coke warehouse at the same Olmeca refinery in Dos Bocas. In the last two months, there have been three mishaps at Pemex facilities, two of them in Tabasco.
