The governor of Veracruz, Norma Rocío Nahle García, announced the appointment of Mariela Hernández García as the new head of the State Health Secretariat (SS), replacing Dr. Valentín Herrera Alarcón, who presented his resignation to return to the ISSSTE, an institution in which he has a base position.
In a weekly interview with journalist Luis Ramírez Baqueiro, the president explained that Dr. Herrera Alarcón chose to rejoin the ISSSTE because he is in the final stretch of his working life, a necessary requirement to continue with his retirement process.
Nahle García expressed her recognition of the work carried out by the former secretary, whom she highlighted for his role in the coordination between the state Health Secretariat and the IMSS-Wellbeing system, a process that she described as complex but necessary for strengthening the sector.
He recalled that during the first year of his administration, the health area faced important administrative challenges derived from the transition to the federalized model of the IMSS-Wellbeing, a scheme in which this organization operates 60 hospitals and more than 800 health centers in Veracruz, while the Secretariat maintains the leadership of public health policy and the supervision of health jurisdictions.
In this scenario, the governor confirmed that the replacement in the agency will take place starting this week, with the aim of strengthening medical care and improving institutional response capacity.
He explained that Mariela Hernández García is originally from Las Choapas, a doctor by profession and recently concluded her role as municipal president. He described her as a serious, responsible, loyal person with a strong vocation for service, with whom he had already held previous meetings to outline the work strategy in the sector.
Likewise, he announced that with his arrival internal adjustments will be made in various areas and directions of the Ministry of Health, with the aim of optimizing its operation and consolidating the progress achieved.
To conclude, Nahle García stressed that these changes are part of the natural adjustments of the first year of government and seek to accelerate the pace of work, improve care for citizens and strengthen the health system for the benefit of the people of Veracruz.
