A delegation of Mexican deputies, led by the president of the Board of Directors, Kenia López Rabadán, made an official visit to Tokyo. The central objective was to promote gender parity in the legislative field.
López Rabadán delivered the Japanese translation of the initiative that she presented in 2018, when she was a senator. It proposes that half of the spaces of popular representation be occupied by women. Currently, female representation in the Japanese House of Representatives is just 18%.
Meeting with Japanese legislators
The delegation met with Eisuke Mori, president of the House of Representatives, and Masakazu Sekiguchi, president of the House of Councilors. The delegation is made up of deputies Diana Gutiérrez Valtierra, Julia Jiménez Angulo, Greycy Durán Alarcón and Nadia Navarro Acevedo, as well as deputy Marco de la Mora Torreblanca. They represent the parliamentary groups PAN, PT, PRI and Green Party, accompanied by the Mexican Embassy in Japan.
During the dialogue, López Rabadán stressed the importance of strengthening institutional exchange between both chambers. He pointed out that this type of meeting reflects the historical, economic, cultural and cooperation relationship that unites both countries. The legislative exchange, he said, makes it possible to build trust and open new opportunities for collaboration for the benefit of the people.
Context of bilateral cooperation
Japan is among the five countries with the highest Foreign Direct Investment. In the first quarter of 2026, according to official figures from the Ministry of Economy, Japan ranked fourth as the source of FDI to Mexico. Likewise, it is one of the main destinations for Mexican agri-food exports and a strategic partner in productive, technological, industrial and educational sectors.
