The Cure’s Robert Smith criticizes the 2026 World Cup halftime show

Robert Smith attacks the first halftime show in World Cup history.

Robert Smith’s criticism

Within hours of the opening whistle of the 2026 World Cup final, Robert Smith, lead singer of The Cure, used social networks to express his dissatisfaction with the first halftime show of the tournament.

On the band’s official account, Smith reacted to the event promoted by FIFA, which will bring together Madonna, Shakira, Justin Bieber and BTS. His first message was brief: “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH.”

Gianni Infantino had described the show as “innovative.”

Hours later, Smith clarified his position. He said that the criticism was not against the artists, but against the decision to incorporate a show similar to that of the Super Bowl.

“For those who still don’t fully understand: the point is not really who organizes or who performs, but rather the terrible idea of doing a halftime show at a soccer World Cup final. If you now understand my ‘Aaaaagh!’ a little better.”

He also opposed the presence of Donald Trump in the stadium to present the trophy alongside Infantino.

“Infantosser has said that he and US President Trumpton will present the trophy together. Unfortunately, I no longer have enough A’s left to express the ‘ARGH’ that should come next.”

Smith accompanied his words with hashtags such as “bread and circuses”, “fuck Fifa” and “please f*** off”.

The show in detail

The show was hosted by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and will be the first in the tournament’s 96-year history. Although it was speculated that it would last 25 minutes, the producers confirmed that it will be approximately 11 minutes, respecting the regulatory 15-minute break for the players.

Meanwhile, The Cure continues their European tour; recently gave a concert in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

Arantza Ruiz joins La Casa de los Famosos 4: between laughter and caution

The Mexican actress enters the reality show with excitement and warning about its black humor.

Arantza Ruiz, actress of soap operas such as Vencer elpast and Eternamente loving us, is the tenth confirmed member of the fourth season of La Casa de los Famosos (LCDLF). His parents, actor Alejandro Ruiz and producer Socorro Méndez, were not surprised by his decision.

“They told me I’m crazy, but since I’m an adult I can do what I want,” she confessed.

The singer and gamer also recognized the risks of the format: some celebrities have gained popularity, others have faced criticism. However, he is confident that this opportunity comes for his benefit.

Expectations inside the house

Arantza wants a fun atmosphere. “I hope it is a very fun house, I feel that the people who go there really want to have a good time,” he said. Although he is aware of the controversies of past editions, he believes that the production will prioritize entertainment over conflicts.

His main fear: his humor. “I have black and politically incorrect humor. I’m afraid that they won’t understand that it’s a joke, because comedy is very delicate,” he explained.

No fixed strategy

Despite knowing nine of the 15 participants, Arantza does not plan a strategy. “I feel like any strategy falls apart, because here the rules change,” he said. He knew in January that he would enter the reality show, which allowed him to finish recording the telenovela Land of love and courage, which premieres in September in the United States and in October in Mexico.

The actress joins a diverse cast: Ernesto Laguardia, Karina Torres, Ximena Herrera, Aldo Rendón, Moisés Peñaloza, Cynthia Klitbo, Yahir, Flor Vigna and Masad Altamimi. “I love that there are actors and singers with experience. I want to learn from them,” he commented.

His goal is to reach the final, but he knows that the format takes him to the limit. “I hope I don’t reach my limit. If I stay a week or reach the final, I will be satisfied that I dared,” she concluded.

Mel C gets married in a country wedding with nods to the Spice Girls

Former Spice Girls member Mel C married Australian model Chris Dingwall on July 18. The ceremony took place at Country House Cumbria, northwest England, a country-style venue chosen by the couple.

Mel C and Dingwall met in 2023 through an exclusive dating app. According to people close to her, the singer wanted a small celebration, without ostentation. And so it was, although with some details that recalled her time as a pop star in the 90s.

Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown and Geri Halliwell-Horner attended the wedding. Scarlett, daughter of Mel C and the result of her relationship with Thomas Starr, participated as bridesmaid.

Dress designed by Victoria Beckham

Mel C wore a white backless dress, designed by Victoria Beckham, also a former Spice Girl. The designer could not attend due to commitments in the United States related to the World Cup. “It was a gift from Victoria – they are very close,” a source told the Mail on Sunday. Beckham was sorry to miss the ceremony.

The wedding went off without a hitch, except for the appearance of a herd of cows that approached while the couple exchanged vows, surrounded by the natural landscape.

Mel C is preparing for a world tour that will begin in September in Montreal, Canada, and will include performances in the United States, England, Asia and several European countries.
