Morelos, the “paradise” where killing women is an extreme sport
Ah, Morelos. That state that could be promoted as “the place where feminicide is more popular than avocado.” Yes, while others compete for the best tourism or the best gastronomy, here the competition is who kills the most women. And boy are they winning.
From January to June, this paradise governed by Margarita González Saravia (alias “the one who inaugurates centers while the bodies accumulate”) boasts a rate of 1.79 femicides per 100 thousand inhabitants. To put it in perspective: it’s like an entire women’s soccer team disappears every month… but without anyone caring enough.
The figures: official or a macabre joke?
The government reports 19 femicides in six months (one of them, a minor). Feminist groups, with this annoying habit of counting bodies, talk about 54. Who lies? The SNSP, which seems to have fingers stained with red ink, or the activists who review even the darkest note of the red note? You decide, although something tells us that the truth hurts more than a politician meme promising security.
And not content with leading in femicides, Morelos is also a champion in child trafficking. Two victims may seem few, until you remember that they are girls, not statistics. But hey, at least there are 202 injured women and 3 kidnapped to “vary” the picture. What a relief, right?
The star municipalities: where the gender alert is just a decoration
Ayala, Cuernavaca, Tlaltizapán… names that sound like magical towns but function as horror catalogs. Seven femicides in a single week, all in areas with Gender Violence Alert. In other words, the equivalent of putting up a “Wet Floor” sign while they dump oil in a hospital. Pure effectiveness.
Meanwhile, the governor inaugurates “FREE” centers (because nothing says “freedom” like surviving an attempted feminicide). According to her, these places offer “autonomy training”. Translation: “Learn to run away from your ex faster”. Of course, with psychological counseling included, because what better than therapy after the State failed to prevent you from an attack?
Moral: If you are looking for a place where the statistics of violence are as high as the irony of its solutions, Morelos is your destination. Of course, visit the FREE centers… if you arrive alive.
