A historic change of court on the border
For the first time, the Mexican Professional Tour arrives at the Tijuana Country Club. And he does it with a special guest who will make more than one fan vibrate.
Miguel Layún, the former captain of America and the Mexican National Team, will debut as an amateur golfer in this tournament. The defender changes his studs for his sticks in a movement that demonstrates his passion for this sport.
“For me it is an honor to be able to participate in an event of this level. Golf is a sport that I am deeply passionate about and having the opportunity to compete alongside great professionals is something that I enjoy and value very much,” Layún declared to GolfShotMX.
The former soccer player had already shown his skills recently in the LIV Golf Mexico Pro-Am. Now he makes the official jump to the national amateur circuit.
A field full of Mexican stars
Layún will share the course with the main figures of Mexican golf. Among them, José de Jesús Rodríguez, Alejandro Madariaga and Raúl Pereda stand out.
Joel Thelen, Luis Garza and a long list of professionals who promise a top-level show will also be present.
The tournament will be played from April 23 to 25 under a 54-hole stroke play format. Three days where Tijuana will be the center of national golf.
Beyond the result, Layún’s participation represents a huge boost for sport in the region. Events like this put Mexico on the golf map and show how athletes can reinvent themselves.
Seeing a football idol face new challenges is inspiring. It shows that sports discipline transcends any field. The winning mentality is worn, regardless of the uniform.
