Michel Franco reflects on his creative rhythm and international projects

The filmmaker reveals his creative process and unstoppable approach to filmmaking.

Michel Franco’s unstoppable career in cinema

Since the premiere of “Daniel and Ana” in 2009, Michel Franco has consolidated a film career marked by unwavering discipline. In fifteen years, the Mexican director has made nine feature films, an average of one film every two years. This rhythm does not obey a calculated production strategy, but rather a creative need that, in his own words, has become inevitable.

The engine behind your creativity

In a recent interview, Franco shared that his passion for film is the main drive behind his productivity. “I like what I do, that’s the main reason,” he stated. He acknowledged that, in the beginning, he faced significant challenges when writing screenplays, but today that process has become a pleasurable activity. Even during periods of rest, his mind inevitably returns to writing: “When I plan to take a two-month vacation, two weeks later I’m writing again.”

This natural approach allows you to value the freedom to create when you feel ready, without external pressures. During a masterclass on the Talents Guadalajara program, Franco spoke about his most recent work, “Dreams”, filmed between San Francisco and Mexico City, and confirmed that he is already working on a new project, although he preferred not to reveal details prematurely. “It is not to maintain the mystery, but because everything can change,” he explained cautiously.

International expansion and global collaborations

Filming outside of Mexico has become a constant in Franco’s filmography. In recent years, he has collaborated with international actors such as Tim Roth (Chronic, Sundown) and Jessica Chastain (Memoria, Dreams), in productions filmed partially or entirely abroad. With “Dreams”, he reaffirmed this dynamic and announced that he will continue down that path: “I’m in talks with American actors again. I’ll probably film part of it there and part of it here.”

The challenge of staying focused

The political and economic environment of the United States, including possible tariffs for foreign productions, is a topic that Franco prefers to approach from a distance. Not out of indifference, but to avoid distractions: “I don’t take it seriously until the changes materialize. If I try to guess what will happen, I go crazy.” This concentration, however, has come at a personal cost. The director admits that his absolute dedication to cinema has distanced him from colleagues and professional circles.

Its methodology reflects a balance between creative discipline and adaptability to changing environments. Although his work gains international recognition, Franco maintains an introspective approach, prioritizing authenticity over market trends.

Oliver Tree’s mother remembers her joy before plane crash

His mother revealed that hours before the accident, the musician radiated happiness.

A day before the accident that took his life, Oliver Tree was radiant. This is how his mother, Christine Begin Nickell, remembered him during the tribute that family and friends held this weekend at the University of California in Santa Cruz (UCSC).

Christine said that hours before the tragedy, she asked him by message how his attempt to quit smoking was going. Oliver responded with a video call and joked by blowing a puff of smoke towards the camera. But beyond the occurrence, it left an indelible impression.

“What impacted me the most was how happy and excited I was with life,” he said.

During that conversation, the musician also mentioned that the next day he would travel by helicopter to a house on the top of a mountain. He planned to record videos and work on new music with friends. Christine explained that Oliver described the experience as an “epic day.” Knowing the excitement with which he awaited that trip makes his last memory even more moving.

Oliver died on June 14 at age 32, when two helicopters collided in the air over Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Five other people died in the accident.

Tribute at UCSC

Saturday’s tribute brought together family, friends and close figures such as Logan Paul, Diplo and Ethan Klein, who shared memories of the artist. The ceremony included musical performances, unreleased videos and symbolic coffins that represented the different stages of Oliver’s life.

Millionaire donation from MrBeast for children with cancer

MrBeast donates $6.5 million to fight childhood cancer.

Content creator Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, donated $6.5 million to support the fight against pediatric cancer. The initiative was featured in their “I Helped 100 Kids Fight Cancer” video on YouTube.

In the video, MrBeast combined philanthropy with unique experiences for one hundred children who have overcome cancer. He brought together celebrities like LeBron James and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to fulfill his dreams.

The project was carried out in collaboration with hospitals and specialized foundations. “Memories are part of a comprehensive treatment,” said Dr. Alan Wayne.

The children enjoyed everything from ski rides and swimming with sharks to visits to the theater. Thirty of them went to Disney World in Florida, where they rode the attractions and met their favorite characters.

Other experiences included travel, shopping, meeting celebrities, visits to the Formula 1 paddock and the Blue Origin agency. Some children signed a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.

Figures such as streamer IShowSpeed, KSI, the group Stray Kids, Sam and Colby, and Christina Tosi voluntarily participated. The minors visited sports team locker rooms, attended exclusive events and received personalized gifts.

Additionally, MrBeast organized a blood drive in Greenville, North Carolina, which will help save at least a thousand lives. The $6.5 million will be distributed among medical treatments, scientific research and support programs, with support from Amgen and the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
