Preparation towards 2026
The Mexican National Team advances on its path to the 2026 World Cup with key news: three footballers active in Europe are joining the concentration.
Starting this Monday, May 18, Javier Aguirre will have Edson Álvarez, Jorge Sánchez and the young Mateo Chávez. The three arrive directly from their clubs in the old continent to join the work at the High Performance Center.
El Tricolor had already started preparation with players from Liga MX. Now, with these reinforcements, the coaching staff seeks to give greater depth to the squad in preparation for a performance that aspires to be historic.
As reported by the Mexican Football Federation in a statement, the three elements will be under the orders of the national strategist from the start of this stage. Each one arrives with a competitive rhythm, although with different contexts in their European teams.
The previous friendlies will be the acid test. The opening match of the World Cup is scheduled at the Mexico City Stadium, where the Tricolor will face South Africa. First, they will have to refine tactics and collective chemistry.
With 10 years of experience covering soccer, NBA and international events, journalist Miguel Torres—former high-performance athlete—highlights that the combination of European experience and local talent could make the difference in such a demanding tournament.
