Mexico anticipates record economic impact from the 2026 World Cup

Mexico is preparing for an avalanche of visitors with innovative strategies and unprecedented economic benefits.

Economic and tourist projections for the 2026 World Cup in Mexico

Mexico is positioned as a key destination for the FIFA World Cup 2026, with estimates exceeding 5.5 million visitors during the event, scheduled from June 11 to July 19. According to data revealed by the Secretary of Tourism, led by Josefina Rodríguez, this flow would represent an increase of 44% in tourist influx compared to previous years, driven by the global visibility of the tournament.

Economic impact and job creation

The detailed analysis projects an economic impact of one billion dollars, benefiting sectors such as hospitality, gastronomy and tourist services. The 48% increase in average spending per tourist stands out, along with a 49% growth in consumption in restaurants. In addition, the creation of 24 thousand temporary and permanent jobs is anticipated, strengthening the local economy in the venues: Mexico City (5 games), Guadalajara and Monterrey (4 games each).

Technological innovation and mobility strategies

To optimize the visitor experience, the government will launch an exclusive application with comprehensive functions: from transport routes to climate and gastronomic recommendations. This tool, designed to “solve tourists’ lives“, will integrate real-time data from the three host cities. At the same time, 30 additional tourist routes will be promoted, marketed by agencies, to diversify the offer and decentralize economic benefits.

Context and comparative analysis

These projections are based on models derived from previous events, such as the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where tourism increased by 37%. However, Mexico would exceed these figures thanks to its consolidated infrastructure and proactive strategies. President Claudia Sheinbaum emphasized that this event will not only boost tourism, but will also position the country as a business and cultural hub.

Chihuahua strengthens aerospace alliance with Regal Nexford

Governor Maru Campos and directors agree to expand in Chihuahua with a million-dollar investment.

The governor of Chihuahua, Maru Campos, met with Regal Nexford executives during the Farnborough Aerospace Fair. The meeting served to consolidate the state’s support for the company and agree on new actions that promote the growth of the aerospace sector.

The meeting included Kevin Longoria, executive vice president; Weldon Abbott, president of aerospace solutions; and Allison Maginot, vice president of trade compliance, government affairs and sustainability.

Support for two plants in BAFAR

The authorities followed up on the incentives, support and legal advice that the state government provides to Regal Nexford. These resources guarantee the operation of two plants located in the BAFAR Industrial Park. Campos listened to the concerns of managers about aspects that could be improved to expand operations and generate more jobs.

“The trust you have placed in us is our commitment to continue complying. This is a clear example of what in this administration we seek to build: legal certainty and confidence in your investments,” stated the governor.

Since it began operations in Chihuahua in 2024, Regal Nexford has invested $13.8 million. The resources were allocated to opening the aerospace division and the Power division, which has created almost 200 direct jobs. The alliance reinforces the state’s position as an investment hub in the aerospace industry.

IMSS sanctions companies for lying in contracts and failing in services

Two companies were disqualified for providing false information and not complying with contracts with the IMSS.

Sanctions on companies for false information and non-compliance

The Anti-Corruption and Good Government Secretariat disqualified two companies that contracted with the IMSS after providing false data or failing to comply with obligations. The sanctions, published in the Official Gazette of the Federation, exclude them from new public contracts.

High Specialty of Medicine and Training received a fine of 138,911 pesos and a disqualification of one year and three months. The reason: he submitted false information in a direct award for high-tech ambulance patient transfer service. In the contract, the company assured under protest that none of its shareholders were public servants. However, one of them worked at the IMSS itself. The sanction was notified on July 10, 2026.

Protein, S.A. de C.V.was also fined 138,911 pesos and was disqualified for three months. He failed to deliver the performance guarantee and 150 pieces of chloroquine (150 mg tablets), breaching an open contract for the consolidated acquisition of medicines. The notification was made on July 9, 2026.

Both companies are registered in the Directory of Sanctioned Suppliers and Contractors, which prevents them from participating in contracting processes with the federal government. The Secretariat affirmed that the measures were applied in accordance with the law and with proportionality criteria. Companies can challenge, but the agency will defend the sanctions.

“Cheating to obtain public contracts or failing to comply with them has consequences,” warned the Anti-Corruption and Good Government Secretariat.

Dog dragged by truck in Saltillo generates outrage

Video shows a woman dragging her dog with a truck in Saltillo. Authorities investigate.

A video released by Dignidad Animal A.C. July 20 shows a woman dragging her dog with a truck in the Villa San Miguel subdivision, Saltillo, Coahuila.

The dog, named Rocky and a Maltese breed, was tied to the back while another dog ran behind. In a second clip, upon arriving at her home, the woman runs over the animal three times when parking and then washes the blood from the garage.

Neighbors reported the case to municipal authorities, who rescued Rocky and provided him with medical attention. After the video was broadcast, the alleged aggressor was identified as Liliana “N” and her husband Jorge “N”. On social networks, some pointed out that Liliana worked at the Saltillo Infrastructure Secretariat.

On July 21, the Municipal Government of Saltillo issued a statement distancing itself from any link with those mentioned.

“There is no relationship between the Municipal Government of Saltillo and the people identified as allegedly responsible for the incident. From the moment the video was made public showing the mistreatment of a sentient being, the Citizen Security and Protection Police Station provided human and technological resources to assist with the Attorney General’s Office of Coahuila,” the authorities stated.
The Coahuila Prosecutor’s Office investigates the case. Animal abuse is punishable in the state with sentences of up to six years in prison, according to the local Penal Code.
