Messi doubles his salary in the MLS: 25 million dollars

Messi wins more than 28 entire MLS teams. His new contract is historic.

Messi’s salary breaks records in the MLS

Lionel Messi has just signed a contract that places him in another financial galaxy within Major League Soccer. His new agreement with Inter Miami guarantees him a base salary of 25 million dollars, and if we add bonuses and guarantees, the figure rises to 28.3 million. Do you know what that means? He earns more than twice as much as the league’s second-highest paid, LAFC’s Son Heung-min.

“Messi’s new contract includes $25 million in base salary and $28,333,333 in guaranteed compensation,” reported the MLS Players Association.

But the craziest thing is not just his individual salary. Inter Miami’s entire payroll, of 54.6 million, exceeds that of LAFC (second place) by more than 20 million and is almost five times that of Philadelphia, the team with the lowest budget in the league. It’s as if Messi, by himself, is worth more than 28 of the other 29 teams.

The impact on the league and the team

Since he arrived in July 2023 with an initial contract of 12 million base, Messi has transformed everything. Last October he agreed to a three-year deal through 2028, and has already led the team to its first MLS title. At 39 years old (he turns next month), he is still the captain of the current world champions, Argentina.

Average compensation in the league rose 8.9% compared to October, reaching $688,816. But Messi is in another category. This is not just money; It’s a statement that soccer in America is ready for the giants. And he, with his quality and experience, shows that effort and discipline always pay off. As in sport, as in life: when you prepare and trust your process, the results will come.

Hamilton resurfaces with Ferrari in Barcelona: rebuilt mind and key support

Lewis Hamilton achieves his first victory with Ferrari and reveals the keys to his rebirth.

The British Lewis Hamilton once again tasted victory in Formula 1. This Sunday, at the helm of Ferrari, he won the Barcelona-Catalonia Grand Prix and climbed to second place in the championship, closing the gap on Kimi Antonelli, his replacement at Mercedes.

At 41 years and five months, Hamilton became the oldest driver to win a race since 1970. But behind the victory there is a process of personal reconstruction that the seven-time champion detailed after the checkered flag.

Keys to the resurgence

Hamilton explained that he worked on his physical preparation like never before to compete against younger rivals, after an injury that affected him in 2025 and raised doubts about his performance. However, the most profound change was mental.

“I have rebuilt my mind to this point, to put myself back where I was. Never question yourself, never doubt yourself,” he said.

To achieve this, he distanced himself from social networks and prioritized time with his close circle.

“I went through a sequence of disconnecting from that matrix. A lot of time with family, with real friends who never doubted me,” he added.

On the circuit, he has received support from Kim Kardashian and a new harmony with his race engineer Carlo Santi, in contrast to last year’s tense relationship.

Ferrari innovation

Ferrari bet on Hamilton when the team had not won for two years. Under the direction of Fred Vasseur, the team has taken risks to innovate. One of the key pieces is the rear wing nicknamed “Macarena”, which is inverted to improve speed on straights.

“These guys have really listened and worked hard to add performance. This year is all about innovation,” Hamilton said.

In contrast, reliability remains a challenge for Mercedes: Toto Wolff saw Antonelli retire with a breakdown, the second retirement in three races.

The joy of the Knicks title overflows the streets of New York

New York fans unleash euphoria after the Knicks win, their first in 53 years.

The 53-year drought is over. The New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, and the city erupted in massive celebration.

In Brooklyn, Yolanda Matos, a retired correctional officer, led a group of neighbors on the sidewalk. They waited until the final horn before taking to the streets amidst screams and tears. “The camaraderie and the craziness is something I haven’t seen in my entire life,” Matos said.

The victory left moments of chaos near Madison Square Garden, with dozens of arrests and property damage. But scenes like Matos’ were more common: strangers gathered around screens, sharing pizza and prayers.

Dance parties lasted until dawn. On Sunday, the euphoria continued at the Puerto Rican Day parade, attended by several players, including Brooklyn native Jose Alvarado.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani, also a fan, announced a ticker tape parade for Thursday. “I was in the Giants’ Super Bowls, in the Yankee dynasty, in the ’86 Mets… None of that comes close to this,” said Marlon Rice, a 51-year-old community advocate.

The joy grew for weeks as the Knicks made a historic playoff run. For fans, accustomed to disappointments, this new reality was assumed as a community effort.

The delirium has disrupted schedules. Newborns at Lenox Hill Hospital received Knicks hats. The cast of Hamilton closed their performance with “New York, New York.” Drivers, firefighters and subway workers are received like celebrities.

In a viral video, sanitation workers let citizens throw garbage bags into their truck, sparking cheers. The city vibrates to the rhythm of the first title in more than five decades.
