Liam Gallagher did not hold back after the match that eliminated Mexico from the 2026 World Cup. The Oasis singer, who had predicted a 5-0 in favor of England, celebrated his team’s victory in X and responded to those who criticized him.
The prognosis and the celebration
Although the final score was 3-2 for the British, Gallagher remembered his prediction. He posted: “It’s hard work that singing Harry Kane, cmon ENGLAND, cmon ‘WONDERWALL’.” The tweet accumulated thousands of reactions and comments.
Mexican users, upset by the defeat, responded with insults. One wrote: “No one in Mexico gives a shit about your stupid boring old music, I don’t even know who you are haha.”
Gallagher replied: “Stop crying uncontrollably.” There were also those who supported him, like one user who said: “Oasis – 1 / Mana – 0, I love you, Liam.” The musician replied: “Louder.”
Other responses included “this is just childish,” “thank you and bad luck,” and “I watched (the match) and it was intense.”
The controversy had begun before the match, when Fher Olvera, Maná’s vocalist, urged Gallagher to respect Mexico. The Mexican team, led by Javier Aguirre, said goodbye with their heads held high after demonstrating a good performance, but failed to advance to the quarterfinals.
