Again in the semi-finals! Bayer does not stop
Xabi Alonso’s machine continues to run at full speed. This Tuesday, Bayer Leverkusen sealed their place in the semi-finals of the German Cup for the third season in a row. The rival, St. Pauli, fell by a clear 3-0.
How did they do it? With the formula that has made them invincible: patience, quality and lethal blow.
Martin Terrier opened the scoring with a left-footed shot from outside the area in the 32nd minute. Patrik Schick then appeared like a predator to volley home the far post and make it 2-0. The finishing touch came from Jonas Hofmann in a devastating counterattack already in added time.
That’s the mentality we’ve built. We know that the games are long and we have to be focused until the last second,
could sum up any player in the locker room.
The memory of what has been achieved makes you hungry for more. This team lifted this same trophy last season as part of its historic undefeated season. The year before, right in the semi-finals, they fell just short of it.
Now, the mission is clear: return to the final and defend the title. Meanwhile, the other candidates are measured this week. Stuttgart visits Kiel, and next week Hertha Berlin-Freiburg and Bayern Munich-Leipzig will play.
The feeling is that this Leverkusen does not play to participate. Play to make history…again.
