What a way to respond!
The Knicks needed this. After two losses in a row, the New York team showed the guts that defines groups that aspire to something more. And boy did they do it.
Things looked ugly. Very ugly. At the beginning of the second quarter, the score was a devastating 49-31 in favor of the Jazz. It seemed that the negative streak was going to extend.
But that’s where the teams separate. The good ones sink; those who have something special, rise up.
The engine was called Brunson
Jalen Brunson was just monumental. 28 points, 8 assists and 3 steals. Those aren’t just statistics, they’re pure leadership. When the pressure was the most, he took the reins of the game and led the comeback.
It was a demonstration of what it means to be the go-to guy. Not only scoring, but creating for others and defending with intensity.
He was not alone. Jordan Clarkson, for the Jazz, scored 27 points in a great individual effort. But sometimes, teamwork overcomes isolated talent.
OG Anunoby added 22 points and Karl-Anthony Towns another 21. It was a collective victory born of a collective reaction to adversity.
134-117 the final score. A beating in the second half that speaks of tactical adjustments, yes, but above all of mentality.
This is what excites me about sport. It’s not just about winning when everything goes well; It is finding a way to turn the game around when everything seems lost. The Knicks remembered last night that games are played until the final whistle.
A victory to keep in memory when difficult moments return. Because it shows what they are made of.
