The actor who does not give up
Juan Pablo Medina is with his hand raised. Literally. In a fresh interview, the actor made it clear that he is ready to return to soap operas, but that the calls just aren’t coming. “You have to learn to adapt and see what you can do, how, and go all in,” he told the Hoy program.
It sounds like a motivational phrase, but it comes loaded with history. In July 2021, while filming the series Primetime, he suffered a silent heart attack. The matter was complicated by clots in the legs and intestine.
What started as abdominal pain ended up being a severe thrombosis. After several surgeries to remove the clots, his body did not respond. The only option to save his life was to amputate his right leg below the knee.
A prosthesis and a new normal
Since then, Medina moves with a German prosthesis. And he doesn’t just walk. He has taken up dancing, exercising and even extreme sports. What could be the end of a career for many, for him was a restart.
“He sees what happened as one more opportunity to be on Earth,” he confessed. “I am very happy with the challenge and giving it my all.”
But there is a but. And it’s big like a television studio. The actor revealed that it has been a long time since he received an invitation to participate in a soap opera, specifically on Televisa.
That’s the awkward point. An actor with a career, who rebuilt his physical and professional life against all odds, now has to ask to be considered. His story is one that sells magazines and fills covers, but it seems not to be enough for a casting.
As it continues to adapt to its new reality with genuine optimism, the entertainment industry has the ball in its court. The question remains: who will say yes?
