‘Joserra’s’ prediction for Mexico in the World Cup
A little more than ten days before the start of the 2026 World Cup, journalist José Ramón Fernández shared his vision about the performance of the Mexican National Team. Although he is confident that the team can compete, he was clear: he does not see them beyond the Quarterfinals.
During the presentation of the book The ball rolls three times in Mexico, carried out with the José Ramón Fernández Institute, the communicator stated that Mexico “is going to fight” to advance in the Group Phase and seek a place in the Eighth Round.
“I think they are going to beat South Africa,” he said, while against South Korea he anticipated a close scenario: “it is very complicated,” although he sees a draw or even a victory possible.
José Ramón explained that the outlook will depend on how the group closes: “If they finish in first place, Mexico would have a more accessible crossing.” However, he warned that if they qualify second, they could face a power like England.
“It’s going to be difficult,” he said about a possible duel against the English team, highlighting the quality of the squad and the presence of Harry Kane, whom he described as “a spectacular scorer.”
Despite this, he maintains a moderately optimistic expectation: “I hope they go to the Quarterfinals and it won’t happen again there.”
Finally, he mentioned that the teams called to fight for the championship are those that dominate the FIFA ranking: France, Spain and Portugal, teams that he considers a step above the rest.
The book compiles chronicles, interviews and matches from the 1970 and 1986 World Cups, editions lived in Mexico.
