J Balvin closes the Flow Fest with a trip through sound time
It seems that J Balvin decided to emulate Taylor Swift, but with more Latin flavor and less pleated skirts. The Colombian was chosen to put the final touch on Flow Fest 2025, and he did so with his own version of “The Eras Tour”, which is basically like a “greatest hits” but with better marketing. He embarked on a nostalgic journey through the themes that catapulted him to be the most relevant urban artist of the moment, leaving the 84 thousand souls that crowded at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez speechless. A night that promised, and delivered, with all the energy.
The clock showed 00:40, the time when any responsible millennial is already thinking about their skincare routine, when the one from Medellín made his triumphant entry… by car, because walking is too mainstream. He started the evening with “Doblexxó”, from his most recent album, and immediately moved on to the classic of classics, “Reggeton”. An animation showed the artist’s time journey, a true “This Is Your Life” but with more reggaeton and fewer tears, reviewing all his eras, from his beginnings in Colombia to the present day of 2025. Immediately afterwards, the Flow Fest was dyed with the colors of the Colombian flag… or a very patriotic rainbow, with the hits “Amarillo”, “Azul” and “Morado”. Because nothing says “musical journey” like a color palette.
“Good evening my people from Mexico, Mexico City, directly from Medellín Colombia to my people, my name is José but some call me J Balvin, grateful to spend this night with these very cool, very cool people, let the count sit down, come on Mexico dear, bastards”Jose released as a greeting. A presentation that has more layers than an onion and that perfectly summarizes its essence: 100% authentic.
The party doesn’t stop and the surprise guests arrive
The celebration continued with “Loco Contigo”, “Con Altura” and “Blanco”, because a Balvin setlist is like that playlist you have saved to clean the house on Saturday: pure bangers. And of course, no self-respecting headliner is free from the tradition of special guests. For that, he brought in heavy artillery from the likes of Farruko with the anthem of bad decisions “6 AM”, and the duo Jowell & Randy with “Bonita”. Because, let’s be honest, a concert without unexpected collaborations is like an unfunny meme.
A boost to reggaeton made in Mexico
But the most ‘main character’ moment of the night was when J Balvin, in a gesture that took us all by surprise, decided to become the godfather of Mexican reggaeton. He took advantage of his visit to give visibility to local talent by inviting He Bogueto, Malilla and Yeri MUA to perform the “G Low Kitty Remix” on stage. And then he gave a speech that almost, almost, made us take out a handkerchief. “I am happy for your movement people, feel proud that you have yours, support the artists of your land because they are the ones who are going to come out and represent my people, a round of applause for El Bogueto, El Malilla, Yeri, Uzielito in the house”, he declared. A powerful message that resonated louder than the bass in any club.
And in case anyone doubted his sincerity, the Colombian specifically praised El Bogueto for having reached the top of the Spotify Global Top 50 with “When I was not a singer”, an achievement that earned the Mexican artist the chance to take the main stage at the Flow Fest. “Today I celebrate that Mexa reggaeton has a number 1 song in the top 50, today we celebrate Bogueto as the number one artist, that is what we all have to celebrate as Latinos,” he noted. Basically, J Balvin went from being the king of the genre to its biggest hype man, and we are here to see it.
The grand finale: fireworks and pure hit
How do you end a show of this magnitude? With all the successes, obviously. J Balvin said goodbye to his Flow Fest concert with a string of bangers that are the soundtrack of our lives: “La Canción”, “Rojo”, “Mi gente” and “In da getto”. To crown the closing of this edition of the festival, the sky lit up with a pyrotechnic show that put the perfect finishing touch to an epic night. An ending worthy of an artist who, at least for one night, made 84,000 people feel like they were on the same time journey.
