The world looks to the Middle East (and not exactly for a new falafel)
It seems that the geopolitical drama between Iran and Israel has just gone up a notch, going from “threatening tweets” to “ballistic missiles with first and last names”. According to the Iranian state media IRNA, Tehran decided that this Friday night was the perfect time to begin its “crushing response” (yes, that’s what they called it, because modesty is conspicuous by its absence). The trigger? The previous Israeli attacks, because in this region, revenge is a dish served… with nuclear warheads.
Sirens, explosions and a cameo of Tel Aviv in the chaos
The air raid sirens sounded in Israel as if it were the soundtrack of a Michael Bay film, while the Israeli interceptors drew arcs in the sky (how beautiful, if it weren’t for the fact that they were to destroy missiles). An Israeli military officer, with all the calm of someone who has just ordered a coffee, confirmed that “dozens of missiles” were arriving. Meanwhile, in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, explosions sounded in the background as if someone had shuffled a playlist called “Total War: Vol. 2025”.
The CNN team on the ground reported “big explosions” in Tel Aviv, because nothing says “good Friday night” like the sound of falling rockets. To make matters worse, a viral tweet (because in the middle of 2025, even wars are live-tweeted) revealed that Iran baptized its operation as “Severe Punishment” (original? No. Effective? Neither, but it sounds intimidating). According to the tweet, at least seven missiles hit Tel Aviv, while others were intercepted. The white one? The headquarters of the Israeli Ministry of Defense. Nothing personal, just geopolitics.
“The IDF insists on not publishing images of the impacts. The enemy monitors this to improve its aim”
Translation: “Guys, don’t upload photos to Instagram, the ayatollahs will then use them to adjust the GPS of their missiles”. Priorities of the 21st century.
Iran’s “decisive response” (or when diplomacy fails, missiles arrive)
According to IRNA, Iran launched “hundreds of ballistic missiles of various kinds” (because variety is key, even in destruction). The operation, they say, is a response to the “savage attack of the Zionist regime”. Funny how in this region everyone is a victim and a villain at the same time, depending on who is talking. Meanwhile, the rest of the world looks on with a “really again?” face and checks to see if they have enough popcorn for this episode.
The only thing that is clear is that, in this game of thrones (but with fewer dragons and more heavy weapons), the consequences could be global. Escalation? Dialogue? Another viral meme? Time will tell. For now, all we have to do is wait… and maybe update our resume in case we need to move to Mars.
