Sweeping debut of the Three Lions
England had no problems beating Croatia 4-2 at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas. The team led by Thomas Tuchel started its participation in the World Cup with a resounding victory that places it in first place in Group L.
Harry Kane (two goals), Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford scored the goals. With this result, the English team renews the hope of breaking a drought of almost 60 years without lifting the World Cup trophy.
Kane equals Lineker’s record
The Bayern Munich striker reached 10 goals in World Cups, the same number as Gary Lineker, the top English scorer in the history of the tournament. Kane has participated in Russia 2018, Qatar 2022 and North America 2026, scoring 10 goals in 12 games.
“Obviously, it’s a great achievement to score 10 goals in the World Cup. It’s really spectacular, something incredible; it’s such an amazing tournament. Gary also had incredible tournaments, reaching that number is satisfying,” Kane declared in the mixed zone.
The center forward was named Man of the Match thanks to his brace on debut. On social media, he wrote: “We started on the right foot, the second half set the standard for us, credit to all the boys for a great turnaround. Thank you for your support.”
With this victory, England emerges as one of the candidates for the title in New York. The team showed offensive quality and solidity, making it clear that it will seek to break the streak of more than half a century without being world champion.
