The curtain falls for ‘El Mencho’
The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) has just confirmed what many doubted and others feared. The body of Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, ‘El Mencho’, has been genetically identified. The man who built the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) from the shadows is no longer among the living.
The news comes after a series of violent acts that shook the country, particularly in Jalisco. The authority not only confirmed the death of the capo, but also detailed the arsenal seized during the operations.
“Elements of the Security Cabinet made various weapons available, including rifles with grenade launcher accessories, Barrett rifles, rocket launchers, short weapons, useful cartridges, grenades and mortar shells,” the FGR said in a statement.
A booty of war that shows the firepower with which his organization operated. In addition, the arrest of two possible members of the criminal group was reported.
The scene in Tapalpa
Meanwhile, in Tapalpa, Jalisco—the epicenter of these events—forensic work continues. Ministerial and expert personnel are working on the formal survey and identification of more bodies found in the area.
The dimension of the research is enormous. The Specialized Regional Control Prosecutor’s Office (FECOR) has opened 57 investigation folders in 14 states. Only in Jalisco there are 37 cases.
The FGR promises to keep public opinion informed “to the extent that due process allows.” But the message is clear: a violent chapter could be closing, while another one full of questions about the future of organized crime in Mexico is opening.
