When life throws you an unexpected script
It turns out that breast cancer is not just a topic for female soap operas. The Mexican actor Héctor Soberón, the same one who made us cry in María la del Barrio, has just released a plot twist that no one saw coming: a diagnosis of breast cancer. Yes, gentlemen, men also have breast tissue (and no, it’s not just to fill t-shirts).
“Cancer does not discriminate, like viral memes”
During a talk with the media, Soberón dropped pearls such as: “We must be aware, cancer does not exclude anyone.” Basically, the message is clear: this is not an exclusive club. Eight months ago they detected a tumor in his chest (yes, where some only have questionable tattoos), but thanks to timely treatment, today he is telling the gossip in the first person.
But be careful, the family drama doesn’t end there. One of his brothers is also on this medical roller coaster: “We thought he was healthy, and overnight he already had metastases.” Wow, genetics sometimes play hard mode.
The actor, who luckily avoided chemotherapy and was saved with only medications, made it clear: “They say that breast cancer does not affect men; it does, and it can be as heavy as prostate cancer.” There you have it, friends: the next time you feel a weird lump, don’t assume it’s just ill-defined muscle.
And like every good character in a story of overcoming, Soberón admitted that the diagnosis made him rethink his life: “Cancer can also be caused by emotions”. Come on, the stress of recording soap operas in the 90s must leave its consequences.
According to the experts at Mayo Clinic (yes, those you Google at 3 AM), male breast cancer begins with rogue cells in the breast tissue (which we all have, although we don’t assume it). Symptoms include lumps, dimpled skin (like a ripe avocado), or nipples that decide to make their own soap opera with discharge.
Moral? Check yourself, because health is not a meme. And if this testimony reached you, share the information. Because, as Soberón would say: “Prevention is the best script.”.
