Mexico implements a comprehensive model to fight breast cancer
In the framework of the commemoration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Government of the Republic has officially presented the Universal Breast Cancer Care Model. This initiative represents a significant advance in the country’s health policy, designed to strengthen primary prevention actions, timely detection and comprehensive treatment of a pathology that constitutes one of the main causes of mortality in the female population of Mexico.
The federal president, through a message distributed on digital platforms, highlighted the epidemiological urgency that this disease represents. He emphasized that, in the national territory, the death of a woman is recorded every hour due to breast cancer, deaths that, from a clinical perspective, are potentially avoidable through early diagnosis and expeditious access to specialized health services. “Today a woman dies every hour from breast cancer, which could have been prevented by early care and so it is very important that Mexico has a care system,” said the head of the Executive.
Key components of the national oncology strategy
The strategic plan contemplates, as one of its fundamental pillars, the acquisition of a thousand mastographs. This high-tech equipment will be distributed and put into operation within a network of 20 cancer care centers located in various states. The innovation of these medical complexes lies in their conception as full-service units; They will not only be limited to performing and analyzing breast imaging studies, but they will also be trained to perform biopsy procedures and provide multidisciplinary care from the first moment, thus streamlining the process for each patient.
This comprehensive approach seeks to eliminate barriers and delays in the therapeutic itinerary, a critical factor that directly impacts the prognosis and survival of people diagnosed with this neoplasia.
The first Cancer Care Center for Women
In a milestone for health infrastructure, it was reported that next December the first Cancer Care Center for Women will be inaugurated in Mexico City. This cutting-edge facility will occupy the facilities of the old La Pastora Hospital, converting a space with history into an emblem of medical innovation. The project, framed in a two-year development plan, will have an initial investment of 8 million pesos.
The primary objective of this center is to guarantee comprehensive, free, high-quality cancer care for all women, with an explicit commitment to equity, regardless of their place of residence or secure affiliation. This care model seeks to centralize specialized services, from screening and diagnosis to treatment and follow-up, establishing a new paradigm in the management of breast carcinoma within the public health system. The launch of this center is a tangible step towards reducing disparities in access to health and represents concrete hope in the fight against this disease.
