Government of Veracruz goes all out against real estate fraud: review of notaries and registry announced
The Government of Veracruz embarked on a frontal offensive against alleged fraud and real estate looting in the entity, by announcing an exhaustive review of notaries, the Public Property Registry and any actor involved in these practices, warned the Secretary of Government, Ricardo Ahued Bardahuil.
“Let those who have to tremble begin to tremble, because this is serious,” stated the state official, making it clear that there is no conflict of interest and that the state administration will not lend itself to irregularities or cover-ups.
In an interview, Ahued Bardahuil reported that concrete actions have already been initiated to address citizen complaints, mainly cases of dispossession that affect older adults and people in vulnerable situations. He explained that since Monday the notarial reviews began, first in Xalapa and later throughout the state, with the aim of guaranteeing legality and transparency in the procedures.
The secretary stressed that the notaries have shown a willingness to collaborate and emphasized that the union or the Judiciary cannot be generalized or criminalized. “We are not the Judiciary, but we work in coordination. If we detect anomalies, we will support the people and act immediately,” he stated.
He recognized the existence of networks of fraudsters made up of lawyers, pseudo-lawyers and individuals who take advantage of legal loopholes and citizen misinformation to misappropriate properties. He even pointed out cases of lawyers who carry out notifications without an address in Xalapa or with titles issued in other states.
Regarding the College of Notaries, he indicated that its president and members actively participate in the reviews, reiterating that the problem is not exclusive to the notarial field, but rather a broader network that must be dismantled.
Ahued Bardahuil also addressed the situation of the so-called “meritorious”, Public Registry workers who have been working for years without formal benefits. He explained that the budget impact is analyzed to integrate them on a regular basis, while recalling that this agency generates more than 300 million pesos annually.
Regarding sanctions, he specified that notarial patents can be suspended or revoked, always respecting due legal process, and recalled that at the beginning of the current administration a notary office that was abandoned was recovered.
The official confirmed that there are already formal complaints, even against state government personnel, and was emphatic in pointing out that there will be no tolerance. “Nothing is hidden here. In this government, corruption is neither hidden nor tolerated,” he said.
Regarding an alleged attempt to dispossess around 500 hectares in the Perote area, he stated that there are already complaints filed and that both the state’s assets and the rights of citizens will be defended, recognizing that these are operations that involve strong economic resources.
Likewise, he announced that any eviction order issued by a judge will be previously reviewed to verify that there are no irregularities before its execution.
Finally, he highlighted that the Government Secretariat has opened a “door of trust” for citizens, which has increased the number of people who come to report or request legal guidance, and he thanked the media for making the problem visible.
“The message is clear: this is serious and no matter who falls. We are going to act within the law, respecting the Constitution and the rule of law, but without tolerating abuses,” he concluded.
