Gael García’s message
The elimination of the Mexican National Team in the World Cup left a bitter taste among the fans, but it also unleashed a wave of recognition towards Javier Aguirre’s team. One of the most notable was that of the actor Gael García Bernal.
Through a video on social networks, the protagonist of “Amores Perros” thanked the players and coaching staff for returning joy and excitement to millions of Mexicans.
“Thank you, Mexican team. You gave us a lot of joy and we will thank you forever. And thanks to each of those players, to everyone who was part of this process… and to the future, to what is to come. It’s all mothers, everything will be fine.”
García Bernal acknowledged that the defeat against England was painful, but that feeling soon transformed into gratitude. It was enough for him to remember what he experienced during the weeks of the tournament to understand the change they generated.
“They gave us a family, an incredible, crazy, wayward, strange atmosphere, with a lot of professionalism, but also a lot of fun, a lot of self-confidence, a lot of human candor and they put together something fascinating that infected us all,” he added.
The actor also highlighted the team’s ability to turn the World Cup into a collective celebration.
“We managed to make the World Cup a football festival, our festival. We received all the people who came to visit us with all the love and with all the pride of showing them our country, of showing them how there is something fantastic in Mexico.”
