FGR will report on the ‘El Mayo’ case, says Sheinbaum

The president requested a diplomatic consultation regarding the possible participation of the FBI in the arrest of the kingpin.

President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) will issue official information on the case of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada. This occurs after the FBI exhibited the aircraft used to transport the noted leader of organized crime.

In his morning conference from the National Palace, Sheinbaum explained that a consultation was requested from the United States embassy in Mexico, rather than a diplomatic note.

“Today the Prosecutor’s Office, I understand that it is going to give a press conference, we have to wait for the press conference from the Prosecutor’s Office or a statement, but they informed us that today, in relation to what we presented yesterday, it will be a statement,” he explained.

The president added that the request was “a consultation more than a diplomatic note through the United States ambassador (Ronald Johnson).” They are waiting for the response.

Aircraft data

Roberto Velasco, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, reported on Tuesday that the FGR was asked to formally request more information from the FBI about its possible participation in the arrest of Zambada and Joaquín Guzmán López, son of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, in July 2024.

Velasco indicated that communication has also been maintained with the United States Embassy regarding how the plane — in which both alleged kingpins traveled — was exhibited at the War Eagles Air Museum in Santa Teresa, New Mexico.

IMSS alerts about network fraud: they offer false affiliation

IMSS warns about false ads that offer membership for 200 or 650 pesos.

The general director of the IMSS, Zoé Robledo, warned about fraudulent advertisements on social networks that promise affiliations to the Institute in exchange for payments. In the morning conference at the National Palace, he asked the population not to fall for these deceptions.

The official explained that the IMSS asked various platforms to remove the publications.

“False advertisements have circulated on social networks and we have asked different platforms to take them down because they are false information and also promote fraud,” he said.

The ads offer Social Security registrations for amounts of 200 or 650 pesos, even through pyramid schemes that promise to reduce the cost if more people are recruited. Robledo explained that the companies that offer these services are non-existent and simulate labor relations to improperly register people. Those who accept could unknowingly commit a crime, lose their money and be left without access to health services when the IMSS detects and cancels those records.

Legal alternative for independent workers

As a safe option, Robledo recalled that self-employed people can legally join through the Independent Worker Model, without the need for intermediaries. This scheme currently has nearly half a million voluntary members. The IMSS will launch an information campaign to prevent these frauds and reiterated that the growth of formal employment must be accompanied by better health services, more specialists, infrastructure, equipment and decent care for beneficiaries.
