Ecatepec faces the fury of the rains with an emergency operation

A night of aquatic terror tests the resilience of a community. The promises of a failed past resurface from the mud.

The Flood that Awakened a Sleeping Giant

Under an overcast sky that vomited its fury without mercy, early Tuesday morning became a liquid nightmare for the municipality of Ecatepec. Six communities, six bastions of daily life, fell one after another under the relentless siege of the waters. It was not a simple rain; It was a biblical flood, a demonstration of nature’s force that found vulnerable terrain, a sleeping giant in a fragile peace. In an act of desperate defense, the municipal government deployed its most powerful weapon: Operation Storm, a life-or-death mission against mud and obstruction.

Guadalupe Victoria, La Guadalupana, Jardines de Morelos… the names of these places, previously simple points on a map, became epicenters of an epic battle. The heroes of this story, the SAPASE and Civil Protection personnel, entered the aquatic darkness to wage an underground war. Their mission: the clearing of drains, a titanic task to unravel the choked throats of the city and allow the rainwater to find its channel, freeing the streets from its aquatic prison.

A Promise between Mud and Despair

In the midst of the chaos, a figure emerged as a beacon of hope. The municipal president, Azucena Cisneros Coss, walked on the muddy land, facing the gaze of neighbors whose patience had run out a long time ago. In the Bosques de Jardines de Morelos section, where despair is another resident, he spoke words that resonated like an oath. These were not temporary patches; It was a promise of redemption. He announced the preparation of a definitive project in December, a fundamental solution to end the torment of the floods that have plagued the lower part of the area for years.

But this promise was tinged with the bitter shadow of a past failure. A ghost of 180 million pesos loomed over the conversation: a collector that does not work, a monument to the incompetence of previous administrations. “Here I am showing my face,” declared the mayor with an emotion that cut through the humid air, “they have suffered from floods for many years… but we want to solve the underlying problem because 180 million pesos were thrown into the trash.” Each word was a challenge, a commitment not to repeat the mistakes that had condemned the community to this recurring ordeal.

Meanwhile, in the Quinto Sol neighborhood, the drama was measured in homes violated by water. Fifteen homes, fifteen sanctuaries desecrated by the current, became the center of another heroic scene. Crews from various directorates of the municipal government came together in a unified task force, carrying out desilting and cleaning tasks with iron determination, fighting to return a modicum of normality to those who had lost everything.

Tragedy, however, knew no boundaries. The neighboring municipality of Ocoyoacac also groaned under the same punishment. The rainfall caused flooding in homes, schools and main roads, while some rivers, swollen with pride and power, were on the verge of overflowing, announcing an even greater catastrophe. The desperation of the affected families was mixed with anger; They begged the authorities for help to activate the water pumps before the deluge, but their pleas fell on deaf ears. The result was an avoidable buildup that turned streets into rivers and rooms into swimming pools.

Faced with inaction, citizens took destiny into their hands. With moving bravery, they placed sandbags as improvised walls, last bastions to defend their homes. The brave firefighters joined this desperate containment, piling up bags to tame the raging riverbeds. Finally, the Comprehensive Directorate of Risks and Civil Protection deployed an operation coordinated with Public Security, addressing the four risk areas identified in a race against the clock.

The road ahead is long and soaked. The cleanup work will continue throughout the week, a monumental task to erase the scars of the flood. Hope now also travels in the form of brigades from the Health Institute of the State of Mexico, whose expected arrival promises not only help with vaccines and medical service, but also a ray of solidarity in the midst of the disaster. This is the story of a night that will never end, a battle that has exposed the vulnerabilities of a metropolis and the unbreakable resilience of its people.

Sheinbaum provides bank cards to Michoacan students as part of educational scholarships.

Tour through Pátzcuaro

President Claudia Sheinbaum visited the municipality of Pátzcuaro to deliver cards from the Banco del Bienestar. The plastics correspond to the “Rita Cetina” and “Gertrudis Bocanegra” scholarships, intended for students from Michoacán.

On her social networks, the president recalled that education is a fundamental right that promotes social equality.

“It makes it possible for the place where we are born not to determine the place we can reach,” he said.

He also stressed that access to classrooms should not be seen as a privilege, supporting the ideal of José María Morelos y Pavón: education should be the same for the son of a landowner as for that of a laborer.

Details of the Gertrudis Bocanegra program

The “Gertrudis Bocanegra” program is part of the Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice. Provides financial support for transportation to all students enrolled in higher-level public institutions in the entity.

During the event, Sheinbaum gave the plastics to the students Valentina Leyva Fabián, Héctor Manuel Menchaca Rodríguez and Diana Elizabeth Orozco Arias.

Official accompaniment

Present at the event were the governor of Michoacán, Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla; the Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado Carrillo; the Secretary of Welfare, Leticia Ramírez Amaya; and the national coordinator of Scholarships for Wellbeing, Julio César León Trujillo.

They seize 84 thousand apocryphal cigarettes at the AIFA

84 thousand fake cigarettes from Belgium seized in the AIFA without arrests.

Assurance at AIFA

Elements of the National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM) and the Secretariat of National Defense seized 84,000 allegedly apocryphal cigarettes at the Customs Office of the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA). The shipment came from Belgium. There were no arrests.

The Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) explained that the detection was the result of documentary and operational review processes, with the support of strategic analysis tools, risk profiles and customs surveillance. The seizure is part of permanent customs intelligence actions to strengthen control in foreign trade.

This is not an isolated case. On June 10, ANAM and the Navy intercepted one million 200 thousand cigarettes from Taiwan at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM). According to Navy data, between September 2025 and January 2026, more than 88 tons of apocryphal cigarettes have been seized in that same terminal.

The authorities reiterated their commitment to national security and the prevention of illicit conduct in foreign trade.

Ochoa condemns tragedy in El Tri celebrations: “We must take care of ourselves”

Four died from asphyxiation during the El Tri celebrations. Ochoa asks for awareness.

The Mexican National Team keeps the country on the edge of its seat. Since June 11, Javier Aguirre’s team has four victories in the 2026 World Cup. Each victory has increased the euphoria in the streets. However, last Tuesday, June 30, the celebrations left a tragic balance in the capital.

Four deaths from asphyxiation

More than a million people took to the streets of Mexico City to celebrate El Tri’s passage to the round of 16. In the midst of the crowd, four deaths were recorded due to asphyxiation. Authorities have not provided additional details about the victims.

After hearing the news, goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa called on the fans.

“We already knew what happened the other day. I send my condolences to the families. Among Mexicans we must take care of ourselves and be aware. We know that soccer moves a lot and I hope tomorrow it can be repeated, but let us celebrate by taking care of ourselves, with joy, in peace, taking care of the streets and monuments. It is everyone’s responsibility,” he declared.

Ochoa asked that support not wane. Against England tomorrow, expect to see the same intensity at the Azteca Stadium and in Guadalajara.

“Ask people to continue as they are going because their drive can be felt on the field. That extra thing that motivates us. The people who are outside, those who gather to watch the game, everyone, but that we also take care of ourselves,” he emphasized.

The goalkeeper insisted that joy should not become risk. The fans respond, but collective security is at stake.
