Four days after the earthquakes

Rescue teams continue to search for survivors in the rubble in La Guaira state, Venezuela. Until now, the official death toll exceeds 1,450 people. Thousands of people remain missing.

Although the chances of finding people alive are reduced as the hours go by, this Sunday rescuers from the United States and France managed to extract a man and his son trapped under a collapsed building. The discovery renewed hope for dozens of families who are still waiting for news of their loved ones.

Criticism of the official response

Residents of the affected areas assure that the first rescue tasks were carried out by volunteers and civilians. The government’s slowness in addressing the emergency has generated strong questions. Authorities report that more than 770 buildings were destroyed or severely damaged.

The United Nations confirmed the participation of more than 2,200 rescuers from various countries in the operations. The International Organization for Migration warned that up to six million people could be affected, including about two million residents of Caracas.

As the aftershocks continue, the risk of new landslides persists. Emergency teams continue searching through the collapsed buildings. The Simón Bolívar International Airport is still in the process of reestablishing operations to facilitate the arrival of international aid.

Sudan: commanders accused of crimes against humanity

Amnesty International accuses senior FAR commanders of atrocities in Darfur.

Amnesty International presents report

Amnesty International has named three senior commanders of the Rapid Support Forces (FAR) as allegedly responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the siege of the town of el-Fasher, North Darfur, in October 2025.

The report, presented in Nairobi, documents homicides, torture, sexual assaults, sexual slavery, forced transfers and acts of persecution against the civilian population. The organization maintains that these acts constitute a campaign of ethnic cleansing. The evidence includes videos showing deprivation of life and torture attributed to commanders of the paramilitary group.

The humanitarian crisis in Darfur

The FAR has controlled large areas of Darfur since the start of the armed conflict in Sudan in April 2023. The offensive on el-Fasher left hundreds of civilians dead and displaced thousands. Humanitarian organizations have warned about the lack of access to food, water and medical care in the region.

Amnesty International calls on the international community to investigate and punish those responsible. So far, diplomatic reactions have been divided, with calls for accountability but no concrete action. The UN and the African Union have expressed concern, but the Security Council has yet to take binding action.

The report underscores the urgency of protecting civilians and breaking the cycle of impunity in Darfur.

29 Mexicans arrived at AIFA after earthquakes in Venezuela. The SRE coordinated the return.

A Viva Aerobús flight from Maiquetía, Venezuela, landed this Wednesday at the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) with 29 Mexican citizens on board. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) reported that everyone is in good condition and will soon be reunited with their families.

Diplomatic cooperation

The transfer was possible thanks to the collaboration between the Venezuelan embassy in Mexico and the Mexican embassy in Venezuela. The SRE, headed by Roberto Velasco, explained that the representation in Caracas maintains permanent contact with the Mexican community and continues to attend to cases of consular assistance.

The earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 that occurred on June 24 in Venezuela motivated the mobilization. The Foreign Ministry reported that it also advises those who wish to leave the country on the available trade routes. In a statement, he reiterated his solidarity with the Venezuelan people in these difficult times.
