A farewell to the champion
At 84 years old, José Bisbal Carrillo’s life ended. The singer’s father David Bisbal died after a long battle against Alzheimer’s, a fight that the artist himself had made public in recent years.
David said goodbye on his networks with a message that broke the hearts of half the internet. “Dad, today you stay to live inside my heart,” he wrote along with several family photos. And he added: “We know that up there you will continue to be a fighter, winning all the fights in heaven.”
More than ‘the father of’
But be careful, José Bisbal was not just ‘the famous man’s father’. This man was a legend in capital letters in Almería. Born in 1941, he was the first boxer from Almeria to be crowned champion of Spain. And not once: he held that title seven times.
His professional record speaks for itself: 49 wins, 35 losses and nine draws. He was a pioneer, fighting even in countries like Sweden when that was not common. A career worthy of a movie.
Married to María Ferre, he formed a family of three children: José María, María del Mar and little David. His sporting legacy and his fight against Alzheimer’s were recently captured in a documentary about his youngest son’s career.
The news of his departure unleashed a wave of affection and support for David Bisbal, who has always spoken of his father with a respect and love that crossed the screen. A champion leaves inside and outside the ring.
