Cruz Azul conquers its tenth star
With a goal from Carlos Rotondi in the 94th minute, Cruz Azul became champion of Mexican soccer by beating Pumas 1-2 at the Olympic University Stadium. The Machine turned the score around and silenced the Auriazul team, avoiding extra time.
Coach Joel Huiqui, who led the team from the bench, expressed his feelings after the title:
“The tenth is incredible, winning a championship is wonderful. You start by losing and the team was very mature. The objective was met: to be champions.”
Huiqui also spoke about his future. He revealed that President Víctor Velázquez has expressed his desire for him to continue, and he is willing to stay. “My dream is fulfilled, but I would love to stay,” he said.
The strategist dedicated the victory to the celestial fans and is already thinking about the next challenge: “Congratulations to all the Cruz Azul fans. Let’s hope to go for the eleventh.”
Regarding the development of the match, Huiqui commented: “The Liguilla is like that. Sometimes the plan gets complicated, but our idea was always to propose, attack with order and defend better.”
