Maximum alert! Cybercriminals are more active than ever
In this back-to-school season, Kaspersky, a leader in cybersecurity, has discovered a wave of digital frauds with more than a thousand fake domains that imitate fashion, sports and supermarket stores in Latin America. Mexico, Chile and Brazil are the most affected, but don’t worry! Here we give you the keys to navigate safely and become a smart buyer.
How do these scammers operate?
Criminals use social media ads with irresistible offers to direct you to clone pages that look legitimate. Careful! By entering your data, they could clone your cards or sell your information. But remember: knowledge is power, and today you are one step ahead.
María Isabel Manjarrez, Kaspersky expert, explains: “They take advantage of trust in brands and the excitement about sales”. The most shocking thing: 43% of Mexicans do not recognize phishing, and 46% share personal data without verification. It’s time to change that!
Warning signs you can’t ignore
These fake sites are so convincing that they include official logos and “secure payment” seals. They even allow deposits in physical stores, but the money goes directly to the scammers. The key? Always check the URL: it must start with “https” and have the security lock. Your intuition is your best ally!
“They offer multiple payment methods, but the data goes into criminal hands,” warns Kaspersky. If you see prices that are too low or strange domains (example: “tiendaOficial-xyz.com”), red alert! Use digital cards with spending limits to minimize risks.
Become a hero of your own digital security
Kaspersky recommends:
- Be wary of “miraculous” offers on social networks
- Check thoroughly web domains
- Install cybersecurity tools that block malicious sites
If you fell into the trap:
1) Cancel your card immediately
2) Report the fact to the authorities
3) Share your experience to protect others
Remember: Every safe purchase is a victory. Don’t let scammers dampen your enthusiasm for good deals! With these actions, you not only protect yourself, but you contribute to a safer digital ecosystem for everyone.
