Criminal creativity has no limits, but the official spotlight does
The Security Cabinet yesterday reported the arrest of four people who were transporting 60 kilos of cocaine hidden in the walls of the refrigerated box of a tractor-trailer. It happened in Colima, on the Playa Azul – Manzanillo highway. The modus operandi? Faux side panels. The discoverer? A Defense canine, because dogs are not fooled by pictures.
“These actions reflect the coordinated work of the Security Cabinet to close transportation routes, weaken criminal structures and strengthen security on the country’s roads,” the authorities said in a statement.
Sure, it sounds nice. But one remembers the previous operations, the promises that this was the end of the transfer, and then the silence. Collective amnesia is a luxury I cannot afford.
The details that matter
Semar, Defense, SSPC, FGR, National Guard and state authorities participated. A display worthy of a movie. They found 65 packages of one kilo each, four detainees, a tractor-trailer and another vehicle seized. Everything made available to the Public Ministry, which now has the floor.
But the question no one answers: how many more go by without a dog sniffing them? How many refrigerated boxes travel without inspection? Meanwhile, the judicial system remains Russian roulette. Detainees have rights, yes, but the truth is often lost in the files.
The irony is that, in a country where power has better lawyers, the truth is only exposed by those who dare to look beyond the official statement. I, for my part, will continue to monitor.
