Elements of the Secretary of the Navy (Semar) arrested a man at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) for transporting more than eight kilos of cocaine hidden in a wheelchair.
The discovery was made during inspection work with the support of a canine team and X-ray equipment. According to the agency, the seized drugs represent an economic impact of close to 1.8 million pesos for criminal groups.
The detainee was informed of his rights and placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry, which will define his legal situation.
“This action is part of the permanent work to detect and inhibit drug trafficking in the country’s airports,” said Semar on its social networks.
Semar coordinates these actions with the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) and the National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM).
The operation was carried out in accordance with action protocols and in inter-institutional coordination. The authorities reiterated that they will continue efforts to stop the transfer of narcotics in the country’s air terminals.
