The National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) decided to maintain the national strike and strengthen the sit-in in the Zócalo of Mexico City. They consider the responses of the federal government at the negotiating tables to be insufficient.
Current demands
At the National Representative Assembly on Sunday, the contingents agreed to continue the mobilizations until they achieved a meeting with President Claudia Sheinbaum. They demand the repeal of the ISSSTE Law of 2007.
The CNTE pointed out that the proposals on educational reform and pensions do not meet the expectations of the teaching profession. For this reason, they called on their state bases to reinforce their presence at the protests.
Union leaders denounced an alleged smear campaign against the movement. They rejected any attempt to criminalize their demonstrations and stated that they will continue protesting until they obtain favorable agreements.
The coordinator reiterated that their historical demands are still valid. He asked the federal government to open a direct dialogue with teachers. Meanwhile, the sit-in and mobilizations will continue in the capital and other entities.
