Dialogue fails in Chichén Itzá; area is still closed
Negotiations between artisans, tourist guides and state and federal authorities in Chichén Itzá collapsed. The second dialogue table did not achieve progress, so the archaeological zone remains closed this Friday.
The conflict revolves around control of the tourist inn. The dissidents demand the reopening of the old inn, closed since May 18, after the launch of the Visitor Service Center (CATVI). They claim that CATVI was imposed without sufficient consultation or formal documents to support its operation.
Community demands
Community representatives presented minutes of meetings with more than 3,900 signatures in support of their demands. They point out that their proposals have been ignored in favor of a small group, which has hardened the conflict in the area.
The authorities have not issued an official position on the continuity of the dialogue tables. For now, access to the archaeological zone remains restricted, affecting tourist and economic activity in the region.
