Timothée’s ‘hot take’ that lit up the networks
Timothée Chalamet, Hollywood’s golden boy, has just dropped an opinion bomb in the middle of a chat with Matthew McConaughey. And no, it wasn’t about his next projects. It was about ballet and opera.
The actor released this:
“I don’t want to work in ballet or opera, or, you know, things where it’s like ‘hey, let’s keep this alive,’ even though it’s like no one cares about this anymore.”
That is. He said that. Aloud. With cameras recording.
The artistic community responds (and how)
The reaction was faster than a jeté on stage. Isaac Hernández, Mexican dancer who won the prestigious Benois de la Danse, responded with a powerful video on social media:
“No one cares? @tchalamet… We do.”
And he wasn’t the only one. A virtual chorus of rejection was assembled from the most sacred temples of dance:
- Marialena Núñez, principal dancer of the Royal Ballet
- The Paris Opera itself
- The Metropolitan Opera in New York
- Megan Fairchild of the New York City Ballet
- Fernando Montaño, Colombian dancer who reminded him of his public responsibility
All publishing spectacular videos of their functions. As if to say: “Look at this and then we’ll talk.”
The most ironic thing about the matter – and believe me there is one – is the family context. Timothée’s mother, Nicole Flender, was a dancer with the New York City Ballet. His sister also grew up in that environment.
The actor tried to soften afterwards:
“All my respect to the ballet and opera people out there.”
But it was too late. The comment had come out of the oven and burned half the artistic world.
Now we all wait for his next move. A mea culpa? A donation to a company? Or will he just let the storm pass while he prepares for his next role?
The truth is that it achieved something: getting everyone talking about classical art in the middle of 2026. Mission accomplished, I guess.
