The night that violence silenced the music
Kali Uchis’ concert in Guadalajara, scheduled for tonight, has been cancelled. The promoter OCESA announced it without giving many details, only talking about “circumstances beyond the control of the artist.”
“We inform the public… that, due to circumstances beyond the control of the artist, the promoter and the venue, the show… will not take place,”
But these “circumstances” have a name and surname: the serious situation of insecurity that erupted today in Jalisco. It all started with a federal operation in Tapalpa.
According to reports, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, ‘El Mencho’, the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), was killed there. The reaction was immediate.
Street blockades, burning vehicles and the activation of the Code Red by the authorities painted a picture too dangerous to gather thousands of people. The Telmex Auditorium was left empty.
OCESA has already given instructions for refunds. They will be automatic for online purchases and at the box office for physical tickets.
A forced pause state
The Kali Uchis show is not the only event affected. Sports, cultural and academic activities were also suspended. Jalisco paused its public life today.
The image is strong: while the networks were burning with the news of the canceled concert, other streets in the state were literally burning. Two realities of the same chaotic day.
