With the aim of strengthening and consolidating the audiovisual sector in the entity, on January 30, 2025, the official installation of the XIV Delegation of the National Chamber of the Film Industry (CANACINE) in the state of Veracruz was carried out, with Aarón Campos leading as state delegate, after being elected unanimously during the General Assembly of the organization.
During his message, Campos recalled that CANACINE was founded in 1942 by a group of film businessmen, with authorization from the then Ministry of Economy, and that almost 88 years after its creation it remains one of the most solid and representative chambers of the film industry at the national level.
He explained that the mission of the Chamber is to represent, strengthen and articulate the audiovisual sector, integrating producers, directors, exhibitors and distributors, in addition to serving as a link between the film industry and government authorities, economic sectors and investors.
He explained that among the main objectives of CANACINE are the link between creators, suppliers and investors, as well as the promotion of public policies that favor the development of the film and audiovisual industry both at the national and state level, with special emphasis on Veracruz.
During its first year of activities in the entity, the Veracruz Delegation has focused its efforts on consolidating the structure of the Chamber, establishing communication channels with government agencies and strengthening the academic field through agreements with educational institutions, in order to promote the training, professionalization and permanence of local talent.
Aarón Campos specified that CANACINE does not directly attend to the production of films, since this process is usually channeled through tourism or culture instances; However, he stressed that the Chamber does provide support to specific projects that require economic and logistical linkage. As an example, he mentioned a production that will soon be filmed in Veracruz and that was linked to a business sector in Huatusco to facilitate its development.
In terms of exhibition and preservation, he highlighted that CANACINE promotes the dissemination of the Veracruz film heritage by promoting spaces for the projection and conservation of local works. In this context, he highlighted the creation of the “Lumínica” University Short Film Festival, whose first edition allowed student productions to transcend from the classroom to the big screen, with performances in Cinépolis theaters.
Regarding the operation of cinema complexes, he clarified that the opening or closing of theaters corresponds exclusively to the exhibiting companies; However, he reiterated that the role of the Chamber is to encourage creators so that their works reach movie theaters and the general public.
Finally, he announced that during this meeting a balance of the activities carried out in 2025, as well as the projects and proposals for 2026, will be presented, with the participation of special guests such as Diana Álvarez Segoviano, national director of the National Film Commission (Uncine); Alexa Muñoz Vidaña, producer and Industry Director of FD Estudios; and Ligie Schutter, representative of the Mexico-France Economic Mission.
With the installation of this delegation, CANACINE seeks to consolidate Veracruz as a national reference in the audiovisual industry, promoting the creation, exhibition and preservation of cinema made in the entity.
