Money is enough… for some programs
For next year, the federal government has a shortlist: 108 “priority” programs that will receive an average increase of 4% in their budget. The figure is curious, because it exceeds the expected inflation of 3%. Generosity or political calculation?
Among those approved is the Pension for the Welfare of the Elderly. Its purse would go from 526,508 million pesos this year to 547,523 million in 2027. A juicy increase that, without a doubt, will resonate well in certain sectors.
The axes of a budget with name and surname
The SHCP has already delivered the document to Congress. There it is detailed that the programs are grouped into four large categories with names that seem taken from a public relations manual:
- Governance with justice and citizen participation
- Development with well-being and humanism
- Moral economy and work
- Sustainable development
And if that were not enough, they add three more “transverse axes”. Because in this game, the important thing is that everything sounds good.
The resources assigned to the Pension program for the Well-being of the Elderly would go from 526,508 million approved for this year to 547,523 million pesos.
The question that remains floating in the air is simple: real priority or electoral priority? Time, and the next accountability, will tell.
