Farewell to a character actress
The Irish performer Brenda Fricker, winner of the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 1990 for My Left Foot, died at the age of 81. The news was confirmed by his representative, Phil Belfield, in statements to the BBC.
“We will never see someone like her again and the world is a worse place without her presence,” Belfield said. “It was an honor to know her, love her and work with her.”
According to Hello! magazine, the actress faced health problems before her departure. For millions of viewers, Fricker was recorded as the endearing “pigeon lady” in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, although her career was much broader.
More than a Christmas character
Fricker conquered Hollywood with her role as a mother in My Left Foot, alongside Daniel Day-Lewis. He also stood out on British television with series such as Casualty and films such as Omagh and A Man of No Importance. However, for global audiences, his bond with the Central Park character was indelible.
