The return that everyone was waiting for!
Atlante is back. After 12 long years outside the elite, the Potros de Hierro have achieved what seemed impossible: their promotion to Liga MX. The last time they played in the First Division was in the Clausura 2014, and since then, their absence left a void.
For Gabriel Pereyra, the club’s historic player, this news is more than a simple promotion. It is the return of an institution.
“The people’s team returns to the MX League,” declared ‘El Místico’ in an exclusive interview. “It means a lot to our national football.”
Pereyra, now coach of Tepatitlán in the Expansion League, cannot hide his emotion. Although today he is a direct rival, his heart is still Barça.
“Despite being rivals and wanting to beat them, I am happy,” he confessed. “It’s the people’s team, there are a lot of Atlanticist people; the fans deserve it.”
A story of reconstruction
‘El Místico’ lived the club’s most difficult moments. It arrived when Atlante was playing in Cancún and was relegated. They were hard times where we had to rebuild from scratch.
“There was no one left and we had to build from the ashes,” Pereyra recalled about those days. “We managed to make a very competitive team, an institution that remained standing.”
Today he sees with pride how that work planted years ago bears fruit. The support of the fans never wavered, and now it has its reward.
“I have always felt supported and loved by the people of Atlante,” he said excitedly. “I’m happy that he can return and I hope he does very well.”
This is not just a sporting triumph. It is confirmation that institutions with history and popular roots always find their way back home.
